Construction Schedule from RCOC
Remainder of this week
Milling (asphalt removal) on Bradway will continue for the rest of the week. Progress is slow as some areas have over a foot of asphalt to remove. On Thursday 10/22 and Friday 10/23, Allied will have two mills working side-by-side, starting around Overhill and moving east toward Cranbrook. The mills will block the entire width of the street and will not be able to move aside to allow traffic to pass. Vehicles will not be able to pass the mill. Residents who live on Bradway should plan that they will not have driveway access during the workday, and park outside of the construction zone before 7 am. Allied will provide golf carts to transport residents to/from their vehicles parked elsewhere during milling. To arrange transport, call 248-638-3190. See additional information about milling HERE. No parking on Bradway during milling.
After milling is complete, Allied will begin grading at the east end of Bradway to prepare the sub-grade. The grading process will last a week or more, depending upon weather and condition of the sub-grade. Bradway residents will technically be able to access their driveways during grading but should anticipate that it will be very difficult (and sometimes impossible) to get to/from their homes during the workday. The street will frequently be blocked, and the equipment cannot necessarily move aside to allow traffic through. Park outside the construction zone during the workday to avoid delays. No parking on Bradway during grading.
Allied has adjusted the structures (manholes, storm sewers) in Phase 1 (Amberly, Endsleigh, Covington Place, Glengarry) to the height of the final pavement. Collars will likely be placed around the raised structures sometime this week. Depending on where the structure is located, this work may block the street temporarily and require traffic to detour around it.
Don’s will continue laying topsoil and then sod in Phases 1 and 2 and do sprinkler repairs. They will then move to topsoil placement on Bradway, starting at the west end.
Week of October 26
Allied will continue grading Bradway the week of October 26, moving from the east end toward Lahser.
On Monday, October 26, Allied plans to pave the final layer of asphalt on Tuckahoe, Sunnydale, Hupp Cross and Morningview, but not Overhill. These streets will be completely closed to all traffic and parking on the paving day. Paving order for Phase 2: Drury from Maple to Bradway, then Morningview moving east to west, then Hupp Cross moving from Maple to Bradway, then Sunnydale moving east to west, then Tuckahoe moving from Maple to Bradway. Asphalt trucks will come in from Lahser, stage on Bradway and back into the streets being paved. Residents who need access to their vehicles on the paving day should park outside the construction zone before 7 am. See parking suggestions below. Allied will reopen the streets as soon as the asphalt is cool enough to allow traffic. Click HERE for more information on paving the top layer.
Allied will adjust structure heights in Phase 2 after the final asphalt layer is down. The structures have been covered during paving; Allied will core and remove the asphalt over/around the structures, raise the structure to the height of the pavement and prepare the area for a concrete collar. Depending on where the structure is located, this work may block the street temporarily and require traffic to detour around it.
Don’s will continue placing sod and doing any necessary sprinkler repairs in Phase 2. They generally plan to re-install brick pavers and bluestone front walks around the time they are laying sod. Don’s will continue to lay topsoil on Bradway as well.
Week of November 2
Allied plans to pave the first course of asphalt on Bradway from end to end in 1-2 days the week of November 2. The second layer will likely follow quickly after the first is completed. Overhill paving (top layer) will likely be scheduled when Bradway is done.
Once paving is complete, Allied will begin structure adjustments on Bradway.
Don’s will continue restoration work (topsoil and sod) on Bradway after paving.
Traffic and parking on Bradway
During milling and grading, Bradway will be very difficult to navigate. The construction crew will often be unable to move aside to allow any traffic through, perhaps for extended time periods. If you live on Bradway, park outside of the construction zone during the workday, which starts at 7 am and ends at 7 pm. Please respect the barricades and cones indicating the road is blocked ahead. Need to figure out at detour? Click HERE for a Village map.
If you don’t live on Bradway, avoid it altogether.
DO NOT PARK ON BRADWAY during the workday. Remove vehicles parked overnight by 7:00 am. All of the side streets provide potential parking alternatives. Please inform landscapers and other contractors they will not be able to park in the street on Bradway until paving is completed.
Parking alternatives for Phase 2 paving
During Phase 2 paving on Monday 10/26, residents will not have access to driveways (in or out) until the work is completed. Move vehicles before 7 am to avoid being blocked in. Parking suggestions:
Park on Tuckahoe, Roland, Wooddale, Hupp Cross or Overhill north of Bradway.
Park on Morningview east of Overhill, or Clifton or N. Clifton.
Park on ONE SIDE of Overhill, in the first block north of Maple. Overhill will be used to bring in stone for grading on Bradway. Limit parking to one side of the street to ensure the gravel trucks can get through. Don’t park on the block closest to Bradway, to leave room for the trucks to navigate.
Do not park on Bradway.
Allied will have golf carts available on the paving day to shuttle residents to/from their parked vehicles. Call 248-248-638-3190 to arrange a pick-up.
Garbage pick-up
Place your garbage at the curb (or behind the curb, if there is construction on your street) on the scheduled garbage day. Priority is supposed to be picking up as scheduled in spite of the construction. Having said that, some of the Priority drivers have been passing by streets under construction, in spite of being waved through by the construction crews. If your garbage pick-up is missed, report it to Priority Waste as soon as possible via the portal HERE or via phone to 855-927-8365. They are responsible for coming back to retrieve the missed pick-ups. Note that Priority generally will not come on Saturday for a missed Friday pick-up; instead, they will normally come sometime the following week.
Bloomfield Township has made Priority aware of the road closures at Lahser, Glengarry and other cross streets, as detailed above.
Reminders
Please don’t park on Bradway during the workday until the street is paved. Park in driveways or on a different street outside the construction zone.
For your safety and the safety of the construction crew, PLEASE SLOW DOWN in the construction zones.
