Phase 1 Paving Set for Wednesday 9/23/26
Allied is planning to lay the second and final course of asphalt in Phase 1 of the Green Section (Amberly, Covington Place, Endsleigh and Glengarry, in that order). Front door notices have been posted. Phase 1 streets will be closed to all traffic and parking. Residents will not be able to access their driveways — in or out — until the asphalt has cooled sufficiently and the street is reopened. If you need your vehicle on Wednesday, park elsewhere by 6:30 am to avoid being blocked in. See parking suggestions below.
Before the asphalt is laid, the streets and curb edges will be sprayed with a sticky, black tack, which adheres the two layers of pavement together. Do not drive, bike or walk on the tack; it is impossible to remove from tires, driveways or vehicles. The second course of asphalt will be about 1-1/2 inches deep, to bring the surface of the road up to the concrete gutter. There may be a slight overlap of pavement over the cement — this is normal.
Barricades will be placed at the ends of each street to keep traffic off the fresh pavement. DO NOT MOVE THE BARRICADES and attempt to drive, ride bikes/scooters or walk on the fresh asphalt; it is extremely hot when laid, and can melt shoes, tires, etc. Vehicle traffic on the asphalt before it is sufficiently cooled can cause damage to the road surface. Sometimes the damage is cosmetic; Allied will not repair any cosmetic damaged caused by premature traffic on the road. Once the asphalt is sufficiently cooled to allow vehicle traffic, Allied will remove the barricades and open the street, generally by the end of the paving day.
Asphalt trucks will be staged along Bradway, will back up Glengarry, then into each street to supply the paver. The asphalt trucks are bulky and do not have back-up cameras. There will be a lot of congestion — plan to stay out of the area completely on the paving day. Please do not try to navigate around the equipment.
Parking during paving
Phase 1 streets will be closed on Wednesday, with no driveway access. Parking alternatives:
Glengarry Circle or Glengarry north of the Circle are good options. Williamsbury is also an option for those on the west end of Phase 1.
Oak Street, Yarmouth, Kent Ridge are options for residents on the east end of Phase 1.
Glengarry or Williamsbury south of Bradway are options as well.
Do not park on Bradway as it will be used for staging asphalt trucks.
Allied will have golf carts available on the paving day to shuttle residents to/from their parked vehicles. Call 248-248-638-3190 to arrange a pick-up.
