Construction Update — Green Section 6/24/26
Construction Update from RCOC
**** All planned timing is weather permitting ****
Remainder of this week
In Phase 2A (Tuckahoe, Sunnydale, Hupp Cross, Morningview, Drury and Overhill) Allied will complete underdrain installation and backfill the underdrain trenches to prepare the areas for concrete curbs.
On Thursday 6/25, Allied will begin work on Phase 1B — second sides of Glengarry, Amberly, Endsleigh and Covington Place — milling existing asphalt near the curb. Please do not park on the second sides (south or west sides) of these streets during the milling work.
On Friday 6/26, Goretski’s will begin installation of concrete curbs in the prepared areas on Tuckahoe and Sunnydale. This is a couple of days faster than indicated in last week’s blog, allowing the crew to move some concrete work out of 90-degree temps forecast for next week. In addition, accelerating this work will hopefully allow crews to pour concrete driveway approaches before the holiday weekend (which gets residents back in their driveways sooner). Curb installation on Friday 6/26 will start on the east end of Sunnydale, moving west. The crew will then move to the south end of Tuckahoe and pour curbs moving north. Allied will place front door notices on impacted homes; residents should plan to be out of their driveways for about 2 weeks. Residents will need to have vehicles moved out of driveways/garages before 6:30 am on Friday to avoid being blocked in for the two weeks. Parking suggestions are provided below. See more information on concrete work and related driveway access limitations HERE.
Next week - week of June 29
Goretski’s will continue installing concrete curbs in Phase 2A, starting at the south end of Overhill and moving north, then Morningview (moving east to west), then Drury (moving south to north), then Hupp Cross (moving south to north). See parking recommendations below.
If the weather cooperates and curbs are completed on Friday/Monday, Goretski’s plans to install concrete driveway approaches in Phase 2A next week, likely Wednesday 7/1 and Thursday 7/2. If curbs are not completed Friday/Monday, they will be poured Monday/Tuesday (6/29 and 6/30); driveway approaches will likely shift to after the holiday weekend.
Because of the high temperatures in the forecast, Bloomfield Township has given permission for concrete work to start at 6 am next week. Impacted residents in Phase 2A will need to have cars out of the garage/driveway before 6 am on the curbing day to avoid getting blocked in for the 2 weeks. See parking suggestions below.
Back in Phase 1B, Allied will begin stripping sod and topsoil between the street and sidewalk. Don’s Restoration will follow closely behind to reset/repair sprinklers in these areas.
Friday July 3 is the federal holiday in celebration of July 4. Construction will wrap up by 3 pm on Thursday July 2 and restart on Monday July 6.
Week of July 6
Allied will backfill the areas behind the new curbs and between the curb and street as soon as the new concrete has set up sufficiently in Phase 2A. It is possible that some backfilling on Sunnydale and Tuckahoe could be done before the holiday weekend.
Allied will begin curb and driveway approach removals on the second sides of Phase 1 streets. Temporary stone approaches will be placed to allow driveway access for the following few weeks. There can be a delay of several hours between removal of the old approach and placement of the stone; residents on a tight schedule should consider parking in a neighbor’s drive or on another street (one without construction) to avoid delays when the removal work approaches their homes.
Don’s Restoration will reset/repair sprinklers as needed.
Looking ahead
Curbs and driveway approach installation is planned on the second sides of Phase 1 streets toward the end of July. Restoration work (topsoil and sod) behind the new curbs should begin in the next few weeks. Preparation for curbs on the second sides of Phase 2 streets will begin once Phase 1 curbs are installed.
Curb removals and underdrain installation on Bradway will likely start sometime in August. Allied plans to block off intersections with cross-streets, and limit thru-traffic on Bradway. These actions will require Village residents to detour around the closed intersections. More information will be provided as we get closer to the time work on Bradway begins.
Parking alternatives during Phase 2 curbing
Residents will not have access to their driveways for around 2 weeks when curbs are installed in front of their lots. Suggested parking alternatives:
For Overhill, Morningview and Drury — park on Morningview east of Overhill, on Clifton, on Overhill north of Bradway or on Bradway.
For Hupp Cross, Tuckahoe and Sunnydale — park on Bradway or Tuckhoe/Hupp Cross north of Bradway.
Over the holiday weekend (including Friday July 3), there will be no construction activity. Parking on the street, opposite the new curbs, is an option, so long as there is sufficient room for traffic (and emergency vehicles) to get by. Please limit parking to one side of the street to ensure traffic can get through.
Reminders
Please don’t park on either side of any street where there is active construction. Park in driveways or on a different street.
For your safety and the safety of the construction crew, PLEASE SLOW DOWN in the construction zones. Remind young drivers in your household to do so as well. We have had some near misses with drivers traveling far too fast on streets with active construction, often with cell phones in their hands.
Contacts during construction
Questions or concerns arising during construction should be addressed to Wayne Dabrowski, Project Engineer for RCOC, with a copy to Mark Meszler, Bloomfield Township representative for the project.
