Paving in Indian Mound area changed to Tuesday 10/28 and Thursday 10/30
Cadillac has updated the paving schedule in the Indian Mound area. The first course of asphalt paving will take place over two days next week:
Tuesday 10/28 — Paving will begin at the west entrance, then onto Indian Mound S, then around the west side, then part of the north side of the square.
Thursday 10/30 — the part of the north side of the square not completed Day 1, Indian Mound Trail, the south side of the square, and the east side of the square, with the east entrance paved last.
As a reminder, roads being paved will be completely closed to all traffic and parking; residents will not have access to their driveways — in or out - until the asphalt is cooled sufficiently and the road reopened. You will want to reschedule lawn crews, contractors, deliveries and any other visitors to your home on the paving day. See additional information on paving HERE.
Asphalt trucks will be staged on Covington Road and will back into the area to supply the pavers. There will be a lot of heavy equipment and congestion. Even if your road will be paved on Day 2, it would be best to avoid driving in/out of the Indian Mound area on the first paving day. You may experience significant delays as the equipment/asphalt trucks move around the narrow entrance. Park elsewhere and walk in/out of the area if at all possible on Day 1.
On Day 2, Indian Mound residents will be able to use the newly-paved road at the west entrance to drive into the area.
We have been in contact with Birmingham Public Schools regarding the buses, with the knowledge that there is a bus stop at Covington and Indian Mound Road. Cadillac will try to time the paving after the last pick-up in the morning but may not be able to complete before afternoon drop off. Parents and children walking to/from the bus stop will want to walk well into the grass and be very careful of the heavy equipment around the entrance from Covington. The equipment operators are aware that children may be walking to/from bus stops, but also have significant blind spots. Walking through the part of Indian Mound that is NOT being paved is the best option.
Access and parking during paving
If you are in the paving area and need your vehicle on paving day, you will need to park it outside of the Indian Mound area before 7 am. Avoid any street with a “No Parking” sign. Parking options:
Day 1 paving — For all Indian Mound residents, parking outside of the Yellow section on Day 1 is the best option — Glengarry Circle West, Glengarry south of Glengarry Circle, Williamsbury, Amberly, Kent Ridge Court, Dorstone, Covington School. Do not park on the streets in the Day 2 area — Springline will be finalizing the grade to prepare it for paving. Parking on the final grade needs to be avoided. Avoid Glengarry Circle East and Glengarry north of the circle as these will be graded on the paving days.
Day 2 paving — Residents of streets paved on Day 2 can park on the newly-paved roads, leaving room between your vehicle and the corners to allow the equipment room to navigate. Avoid the area where the paver left off on Day 1.
Cadillac will reopen the streets to traffic as soon as the asphalt is cool enough to do so. Plan to be back on your newly-paved street by the end of the day.
