GREEN section project receives final approval!

At their meeting on April 27, 2026, the Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the Green Section SAD — our fifth and final section for road reconstruction!

The final assessment for each Green section parcel is $39,373, a substantial reduction from the $52,570 supported by the Green section residents in the petition. See further discussion of why HERE.

Allied Construction was the lowest qualified bidder and was awarded the project. Allied will lead and coordinate a team of subcontractors performing the work in the various aspects of the project (excavation, underdrains, concrete, landscaping, pipe-lining, etc.).

What happens next?

We will be meeting with Allied, Bloomfield Township and the Road Commission on Wednesday, April 29 for a pre-construction conference, at which we expect to discuss a project timeline and general information on the construction sequence. We expect that pre-construction mobilization will begin very quickly, with shovels in the ground in the next few weeks.

Steps to take now

Sprinklers — One of the first steps in the construction process will be removal of existing curbs and the layers of asphalt covering them, by trenching along the sides of each street in the area between the sidewalk and the street. Many residents have sprinkler systems in these “green belt” areas, which will need to be moved out of the way of construction. Please schedule your sprinkler activation as soon as possible. Have your contractor flag sprinkler heads in the “green belt” area. Turn off the zone that includes the green belt area. The landscape contractor for the road project will be responsible to move the sprinkler lines aside for construction, and reset them later this summer/fall after the curbs are in. Any sprinkler heads/lines damaged during construction will be repaired by the project landscape contractor. Please note — Residents may choose to have their own contractors move sprinkler lines, make repairs of construction damage and/or replace sprinkler heads, but will not be reimbursed for the cost of doing so.

Prepare the “green belt” area - Remove all rocks or other landscaping materials in the area between the sidewalk and the street, if you wish to keep them. Store them elsewhere on your lot if you will want to reset them after construction. For the few areas where there are no sidewalks - the construction will impact about five feet back from the side of the current street. Any landscaping in this area will likely be damaged by the construction process and should be moved elsewhere if you would like to replant/reset it in the fall.

Future communication

We will use blog posts to communicate updates on construction as we have them, at least weekly but likely more often as we get into the meat of construction later this summer. Residents will want to “bookmark” the Roads blog — www.VillageRoads/blog — and plan to check it frequently throughout the construction season.

We will meet weekly with the Road Commission, Bloomfield Township, Allied and various subcontractors throughout the project. After each meeting, we will post updates via blog.

Contacts during construction

Resident questions and concerns during road construction should be directed to the Project Engineer, Wayne Dabrowski of the Road Commission, with a copy to Mark Meszler of Bloomfield Township. As the Project Engineer, Wayne has overall responsibility for the project. He will communicate with Allied and its sub-contractors as needed. Email Wayne at wdabrowski@rcoc.org.

Bloomfield Township has hired Mark Meszler to perform oversight of the project on behalf of the Township and the residents. Mark ran the SAD program at the Road Commission for many years before his retirement and has extensive experience in subdivision road design and construction. Email Mark at mmeszler@roadrehab.solutions (yes, it looks weird but that is the actual email address.)
