Construction update - Gold section 5/19/25

Pre-construction work has begun in the Gold section. Residents can expect the following:

This week

  • Placement of construction signage will continue this week. Porta-potties will be placed in the Gold section in the next day or two.

  • Beginning Tuesday 5/20, Mike’s Landscaping will be prepping sprinklers in the Gold section by confirming they are operational and moving heads back from the area to be impacted by construction. If Mike’s in unable to locate the sprinkler controls to turn on the sprinklers, they may knock on residents’ doors to ask for assistance. Mike’s will begin on Glengarry, then move to Williamsbury, then Hamilton.

  • On Thursday and Friday, the contractor will begin saw-cutting driveway approaches. The saw-cuts mark the line at which the driveway approach will be removed to make way for the construction.

  • RCOC surveyors will be in the Gold section setting stakes for construction. Generally (but not always), the stakes in residents’ yards are set 5 feet from where the back of the new curb will be located. Please leave the stakes in place throughout the project.

  • Soil erosion bags will be placed this week in catch basins and manholes throughout the construction zone.

  • All construction (and pre-construction) activities will cease, and contractors will exit the neighborhood by 3 pm this Friday, in anticipation of the holiday weekend.

Next week

  • No work will be performed on Memorial Day.

  • Mike’s will continue sprinkler work as discussed above.

  • Springline will begin excavation work, likely on Tuesday. This work will involve removal of existing curbs and the asphalt that covers them, and removal of driveway approaches. Springline will begin work at the south end of Glengarry (at Maple) and work north. Here is the order starting next week and into the week of June 2:

    • EAST side of Glengarry from Maple to Cranbrook Cross.

    • SOUTH side of Cranbrook Cross from Glengarry to Bradway.

    • EAST side of Glengarry from Cranbrook Cross to Bradway.

    • WEST side of Williamsbury, working north to south (that is, working from Bradway to Cranbrook Cross.)

See discussion below on driveway access and parking limitations during curb/driveway approach removal.

Driveway access limitations

Once driveway approaches are removed, the excavation contractor will provide a gravel temporary approach. There may be a delay of up to 2 hours between the approach removal and setting of the temporary approach. Residents will need to plan ahead if the curb/driveway approach removal operation is on their street and they need to get out of the driveway at a specific time. Arranging with a neighbor across the street to park in their driveway might be an option. Once the temporary driveway approach is set, it will be in place until the curbs are laid.

Traffic and parking during construction

In general, our streets will remain open to traffic throughout the road construction, except for a few days around paving. Even if the street is open for traffic, there WILL be times when the road is temporarily blocked by construction work or equipment. Cadillac is responsible for providing flaggers or other means of alerting drivers to temporary blockages or closures. The best option for residents throughout the project is to leave a bit early and plan some cushion if your travels take you through the construction zones.

The majority of the construction work will impact one side of a street at a time. Our experience last summer demonstrated that our roads are simply too narrow to have construction on one side of the street, plus room for traffic to pass, plus parked vehicles. For that reason, PLEASE do not park on the street during the workday when there is active construction. Park in your driveway, or on an adjacent street. We realize this is inconvenient, but it will help ease congestion on our streets and help the construction progress more efficiently. Please inform babysitters, contractors in your home, visitors, etc. of these parking limitations.

Looking ahead

Once curbs and driveway approaches have been removed, Springline will dig trenches parallel to the road into which they will underdrain. The underdrain will be positioned under the new curbs, and is designed to gather water from lawns/sidewalks and funnel it into catch basins such that the water doesn’t get to the roadbed. Once the underdrain is laid and the ground prepped, concrete work — new curbs and driveway approaches — will be next. The contractors will complete these operations in sequence on one side of the street, then begin the same series of work steps on the opposite side of the street.

More information on planned timing of these construction steps will be provided as the schedule is further defined.
