Construction Update — Gold Section 10/15/25

Construction update from Road Commission

***** All planned timing is weather permitting *****

Remainder of this week

  • Springline will continue grading on Cranbrook Cross, the Chewtons and Cliftons on Wednesday 10/15. Once the grade is finalized, they will place cones at various intervals along the road. Please drive slowly on the final grade to avoid damaging it before it is paved.

  • On Thursday 10/16, Cadillac is scheduled to pave Cranbrook Cross, the Chewtons, and the Cliftons with the first layer of asphalt. These roads will be completely closed to ALL traffic and parking. Residents will not have driveway access — in or out — until the road is reopened. See further information below.

  • M-openings will be installed at a number of the intersections as shown in pink on the map below. These intersections will be closed to traffic for about a week starting on Saturday 10/18, when Springline will prep the intersections for concrete. Intersections to be closed:

    • Chewton, Clifton and Cranbrook Cross at Maple.

    • Chewton Cross at Hamilton

    • N. Clifton at Clifton

    • Morningview at Hamilton

    • Glengarry at Cranbrook Cross (on the north side of the intersection)

Residents will need to detour around the closed intersections until the concrete has sufficiently cured, and the intersections are reopened. Cure time on the concrete will depend on the weather and may be longer that cure time for the curbs/driveway approaches. See detour suggestions and map below.

Next week

  • Doan will pour concrete in the prepared M-openings on Monday 10/20.

  • Springline will prep the M-opening across Chewton Cross at N. Clifton (shown in blue on the map below). This work is currently scheduled for Saturday 10/25, with concrete to be poured 10/27. This intersection will be closed for about a week. Traffic will need to detour via Hamilton or S. Chewton.

  • Mike’s Landscaping will repair sprinklers and install topsoil and sod in the handful of areas where restoration is not yet complete. Timing of this work is contingent upon a sub-contractor installing conduit under ADA ramps and some driveway approaches.

Looking ahead

  • The second and final lift of asphalt paving is currently planned for late the week of 10/27 or early the following week. The final lift will be laid over 2 days, with Glengarry, Williamsbury and Hamilton done one day and the remaining streets on another.

  • Sewer and drainage structures located in the street were lowered prior to milling and have been paved over. After the second course of asphalt is completed, the asphalt over the structures will be removed, the structures will be raised to the level of street, and a cement collar installed around the structures. The structures will then be relined.

Paving on 10/16 - details and parking alternatives

For the paving on October 16, Cadillac will utilize an Eschelon paving process - two pavers side-by-side with a slight offset laying the asphalt across the entire road. Rollers will then mesh the two asphalt streams together while they are hot such that there is no seam in the middle.

Clifton will be paved first, then Chewton, then Chewton Cross then N. Clifton. For Chewton and the Cliftons, the paver will move from Maple north to Morningview; Chewton Cross will be paved from Hamilton toward Clifton. Asphalt trucks will be staged on Overhill and Bradway, and will back down each street from Morningview.

Cranbrook Cross will be paved last, starting at Maple and moving toward Bradway. Asphalt trucks will be staged on Bradway and back into Cranbrook Cross to supply the paver.

The asphalt will be very hot when laid — do not walk on it or allow your pets to do so. Once the asphalt has sufficiently cooled, Cadillac will reopen the street, usually by the end of the day.

As indicated above, streets will be completely closed to all traffic and parking on the paving day. Please inform lawn/landscape crews of the scheduled paving day and request that they come on a different day. *****Residents on the block of Williamsbury closest to Maple will need to park north of Cranbrook Cross if they need to get out on the paving day, as Williamsbury will be closed at Maple.*****

Parking suggestions for 10/16 paving

Cadillac will place “No parking” signs where parking is prohibited during grading and paving. This will include areas on Bradway, Morningview and Overhill where the asphalt trucks will be staging or where the space is needed for the equipment to navigate turns.

Suggestions for parking during grading and paving of Cranbrook Cross, the Chewtons and Cliftons:

  • Cranbrook Cross — park on Glengarry or Hamilton, or Williamsbury north of Cranbrook Cross, leaving about 150 feet between your vehicle and a corner. (Avoid the block of Williamsbury closest to Maple as the intersection at Maple is closed.)

  • Chewtons and Cliftons — park on Hamilton, Drury Lane, or Morningview west of Overhill.

Please do not park on Morningview or Overhill on the paving day as it will be used for staging/backing in asphalt trucks. Please refrain from parking where there are “no parking” signs.

M-Openings - traffic detours

While the 6 intersections shown in pink on the map are closed starting Saturday 10/18, use the following detour routes:

For Clifton Road — head north to Morningview, turn left over to Overhill.

For Morningview — head west to Overhill.

For Chewton Road — go north to Chewton Cross, turn left, then right on N. Clifton to Morningview. Go left on Morningview to Overhill.

For Chewton Cross, go west to N. Clifton, turn right to Morningview. Go left on Morningview to Overhill.

Glengarry — for the south block, the Maple intersection is open or take Cranbrook Cross east to Bradway. For the north block, head north to Bradway.

The closed intersections should re-open in about a week.

Garbage pick-up

Place garbage/recycling out on Thursday night/Friday morning as you would normally. If your street is scheduled for grading, place the cans behind the curb - Priority can still pick them up and they will not impede grading equipment. The contractor will have to work with Priority to allow garbage/recycling trucks to get through. If your pick-up is missed, call Priority directly. 855-927-8365 or 586-228-1200.
